The Sunday – New Year and New Memories

Not In Holiday Spirit

Getting sucker punched is never in the holiday spirit.

Neither is this pointless ejection.

Miami head coach Mark Richt, yeah, not in the holiday spirit after a holding call that went by the wayside.

In The Holiday Spirit

This guy…..

The Sense of giving…

Uh, this dog.

Coach Martin giving the opposing team a pep talk.

But the real holiday spirit is reflected in former Arkansas AD Jeff Long and football coach Brett Bielema. Both tweeted their support for their successors after being unceremoniously sacked by the University in late November.

Moments Of The Week

Brought to you by, you guessed it, Washington State head coach Mike Leach.

Followed quickly by Bill Walton being, well, Bill Walton.

And then later….

Celebrations + Formations

Not sure what was happening here but hey, it’s Boise State in a bowl game.

Then the Internet did its thing….

No Shame

And the bad part was, this was called back on a penalty.

And that was almost as good as this, which did count.

And how long is this suspension going to be?

Giving Back

Wait, I have to blow snow?

Moments of the Week

San Diego State head coach on Texas A&M’s new head coach’s contract…

And then things got ugly in Jacksonville.

Laying Down The Boom

Here comes the….

Bell the bulldozer.

Julio Jones, laying the wood.

A boom in another form.

Of Note….

Best celebration?

Or This?

How to get suspended…do this.

And some days, you just don’t get along.

Then Gronk did this and Belichick had to apologize.

It use to be that no sports team in the city of Toronto won a championship. Now they’ve had two in a matter of weeks. First the Argos took home the Grey Cup and now Toronto FC took home MLS Cup.

Mascots who have a dance off? Yep, that’s winning.

Army v Navy

Normally, cold opens as they are called are forced, overly done and meaningless. The open for the Army v Navy game was at times ‘overly done’ but man is it good.

The Silly Season Goes To A Whole New Level

Well the silly season of college football was taken to a whole new level this past week. Tennessee led the charge with the most bungled, dumpster fire coaching search in recent memory that ended up costing the Athletic Director his job. A distant second might be the Texas A&M search. It’s not that the A&M search was bad, it was just what was paid.

Texas A&M fired Kevin Sumlin, who went 51-26 in 6 seasons with the Aggies, and then hired Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher. To fire Sumlin, A&M has to pay him $10.4 million due in the next 60 days and then it turned around and signed a deal to pay Fisher $75 million over 10 years…..fully guaranteed.

Meanwhile Florida State was not happy. They essentially pushed out Fisher before the Seminoles final game because they flat out got tired of it. Then people were apparently outside of Fisher’s house and noticed this…..

Sumlin on the other hand may land a coaching gig here soon. His final press conference was pure class though.

While the Texas A&M switch at Head Coach was an unkept secret for weeks, the only one worse was UCF coach Scott Frost going home to Nebraska.

Frost was pretty disappointed that he didn’t get to savour the incredible win against Memphis for the AAC title and let people know at the post game press conference.

None the less, Frost is the Head Coach at Nebraska. In fact, here was there this morning.

A final note on Tennessee (and I am a proud Tennessee alumni), the fan base has a right to be upset. As ESPN’s Chris Low pointed out in a tweet on Saturday;

The fan base also needs to understand how this looks outside of Vol Nation. While many if not most could care less what those people think (especially in this era of absolute hatred for differing opinions), recruits and coaches do. Tennessee’s climb back to national prominence was going to be hard before firing Butch Jones. After this week, it got even harder.

The Good Stuff

Oh, yes he did

First they broke the field….

Then this guy fixed it.

His name by the way is Erik Harlow and he is a hero.

Cold Blooded

Just dribble around Mr. Ball.

Defense optional this year in Phoenix.
