The Silly Season Goes To A Whole New Level
Well the silly season of college football was taken to a whole new level this past week. Tennessee led the charge with the most bungled, dumpster fire coaching search in recent memory that ended up costing the Athletic Director his job. A distant second might be the Texas A&M search. It’s not that the A&M search was bad, it was just what was paid.
Texas A&M fired Kevin Sumlin, who went 51-26 in 6 seasons with the Aggies, and then hired Florida State’s Jimbo Fisher. To fire Sumlin, A&M has to pay him $10.4 million due in the next 60 days and then it turned around and signed a deal to pay Fisher $75 million over 10 years…..fully guaranteed.
Meanwhile Florida State was not happy. They essentially pushed out Fisher before the Seminoles final game because they flat out got tired of it. Then people were apparently outside of Fisher’s house and noticed this…..
Sumlin on the other hand may land a coaching gig here soon. His final press conference was pure class though.
While the Texas A&M switch at Head Coach was an unkept secret for weeks, the only one worse was UCF coach Scott Frost going home to Nebraska.
Frost was pretty disappointed that he didn’t get to savour the incredible win against Memphis for the AAC title and let people know at the post game press conference.
None the less, Frost is the Head Coach at Nebraska. In fact, here was there this morning.
A final note on Tennessee (and I am a proud Tennessee alumni), the fan base has a right to be upset. As ESPN’s Chris Low pointed out in a tweet on Saturday;
The fan base also needs to understand how this looks outside of Vol Nation. While many if not most could care less what those people think (especially in this era of absolute hatred for differing opinions), recruits and coaches do. Tennessee’s climb back to national prominence was going to be hard before firing Butch Jones. After this week, it got even harder.
The Good Stuff
Oh, yes he did
First they broke the field….
Then this guy fixed it.
His name by the way is Erik Harlow and he is a hero.
Just dribble around Mr. Ball.
Defense optional this year in Phoenix.
