The Series

There were people out there who thought that a Pittsburgh v Nashville Stanley Cup Final would be a ratings downer. Wrong. Apparently ratings are up and pretty substantially.

The Final has not been without it’s controversy. The fact is that even if the Pittsburgh wins this series which is likely, will it tarnish Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin? Nashville’s P.K. Subban has clearly gotten under the skin of his Team Canada teammate and also that of Malkin.

Crosby is one of the few NHL players that transcends the sport. Is it good for hockey if he is doing what he did above? Yes Subban can get under your skin. That’s part of his game as one of the better defensemen in the league but Crosby and Malkin need to rise above. Not only for themselves but also for their team and for the league.

Bye Bye Big Game Bob

Oklahoma football coach Bob Stoops stepped down abruptly this week at the ripe old age of 56. He over course will stay on at OU as ‘special assistant to the Athletic Director’ meaning he gets paid to go do some fund raising.

He has 190 wins (most in Oklahoma history) and one national title (2000). He was nicknamed ‘Big Game Bob’ for his ability to win big games early in his 18 year career as head coach at Oklahoma. It was a nickname that some mocked later on going 0-3 in National Title games after winning his first and only title. Oklahoma did have 4 Heisman Trophy winners during his time as head coach and nine former assistants have gone on to become head coaches.

What?

LeBron showing why he is The King.

This is just mean…

…and so is this.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs

One could make the argument that the toughest trophy to win in all of sports is the Stanley Cup. If you don’t believe that, then tune in to the games going on now and watch the skill, hits, and passion. Below are some highlights from this past week.

Hell Ya Canada!

Baseball….It’s More Than You Think

Craziest Double Play Ever?

Ouch

Nashville predators winger Kevin Fiala went crashing into the boards in game 1 of their second round matchup against the St Louis Blues. Other than the broken left femur he is otherwise in good shape.

The Draft

Every spring NFL gather around the television to not watch an NFL game. It’s an event in and of itself with usually some memorable moments.

Sign The Bunny Up

Let’s face it, you won’t see a better tackle than this all year long. Someone is going to sign the Easter Bunny to an NFL contract.

Trolling

What’s better than sweeping your rival in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs? Having the mascot troll all the people who didn’t pick you to win.

Wow!

Darlington Nagbe is up to his old awesome goal scoring tricks again.

And Charlie Blackmon showing you that hustle really does pay off.

Ouch

Madison the Destroyer

An MLB first, a pitcher hits not one but two home runs on opening day. Bad news, he didn’t even get the win as the SF Giants bullpen blew the game.

The Sunday – Upsets, Arrivals And Scary Moments

End of the Run

Regardless of if the Mississippi State women’s basketball team wins the National Title game on Sunday, they have already accomplished the impossible. They defeated the previously unbeaten UCONN Huskies in the semifinal of the Final Four on a last second shot by the shortest person on the floor.

This was UCONN’s first loss in 111 games. To put that in perspective, the last time they lost was 865 days ago or if you prefer, November of 2014. Mississippi State’s victory is officially one of the greatest upsets of all time.

Fights

Schweinsteiger

Bastian SchweinsteigerBastian Schweinsteiger brings a bit of experience with him to the Chicago Fire. A decade plus playing for Bayern Munich and 120 plus appearances with the German National team which included a World Cup championship in 2014.

Despite his pedigree, some members of the media were either utterly nervous or just didn’t know their sport.

And of course he scores in his first game.

Scares

Scary moments in Philadelphia as starting goalie Michal Neuvirth collapsed on the ice. He was unconscious for a bit but was moving and awake when he was taken off the ice via a stretcher.

He was still in the hospital as of this morning. On a better note, the backup goalie was called up that day from the minors and barely made it in time for the game. Then the emergency goalie for the Flyers, Eric Sembrowski, almost got into the game with 24 seconds remaining. Unfortunately Sembrowski wasn’t allowed to play due to some NHL rules. The Flyers fans let the refs know that they didn’t approve.

The Sunday – The Shots of March

Shots

Sidney Crosby shows why he is one of the best players in his generation.

And so does LeBron James.

And oh is it pretty….

….when you include all of USMNT goals. All 6 of them.

The Madness Continues

Half of the Final Four is set with the other half being set today but Florida and Wisconsin reminded us why we love and hate this time of year.

Xavier may have lost a chance to go to the Final Four but this end of the half buzzer beater by J.P. Marcura is something to see. Even if it didn’t count.

What?

Devin Booker dropped 70 points on the Boston Celtics this past week. 70!

The Sunday – Hot Shots

Compiled By Brad Hubbard | 3.19.2017

That Hurt

The only better than racing are the fights after the race. But then again, what else would expect after a long, hot afternoon in Las Vegas.

But this may have hurt more….

Watch Out

Cycling isn’t the world’s biggest sport which is why this woman out walking her dog probably had no idea that one of the sports best cyclists, Peter Sagan, was doing a time trial.

While upset at the time Sagan later joked about the incident when he posted this photo to his twitter account.

Shots

While many people did quite a few shots on St. Patrick’s Day was past Friday. One would have to argue that these shots were better.
